Evaluation Question 4:
Who would be the audience for your media product?
Audience is the most important part when a film is distributed. Genres like thriller perhaps targeted more vaguely than others as there are thriller that have different sub-genres involved. for instance the film opening i made with my group is a Psychological thriller.
Evaluation Question 7
Looking back at the Prelim that was created, the skills i have learnt has advanced enourmously and i have now become aware of the process it takes to create a film.
Evaluation Question 6
My moodboard I used from Beeclip, on the technologies I used:
The main type of technology used, was final cut Pro and soundtrack Pro. Using these applications at first was a struggle, but as time went on i came familiar with the effects, techniques, styles and designs etc, both products have. It also helped with my creativity of processing data and information. Other technologies like Beeclip, Go animate and Prezi brought out the creativity in the project. In addition using Livetype for title sequences and poster animation was very inspirational.
How I used this?
Using these types of technology taught me how to edit and re-edit projects, and gained knowledge towards making an actual film (Film cut pro) and making sound (Soundtrack Pro). the way in which i used the cameras and the recording equipment also is another technological experience that I can add now towards my skills when using Macs, or any time of recording instrument.
Like the Cam recorder and the Flip cam.

Evaluation Question 5
Aspects of my film opening:
Mise en Scene
I used this very wisely in the film opening. Props used like fake blood, and the Globe, had a significance in the product, when made into a whole movie, the globe will gain more meaning as to why we see it occurring in the film.
Storyline
The audience felt the story line in my film product was very convienient, as the Psychological impact it can gain from the audience and their understanding will be at great effect, as the character protrayed in the film, does the unatural, and the supernatural after 03:01 pm. This is significant tto the title. In addition the chracters whereabouts is displyaed (bedroom) just like Pranormal Actvivty to give off that thrill effect. The audience commented also that what would have been better is if, we make another character in the film visable so that we can know where our chracter is based, if she is living on her own, or with parents, to make it clear no one around her knows what happens, except her victims.
Genre
This Genre is a thriller, its sub-genre is a Psychological thriller, which the audience again commented and said that it appeals to alot of people their age, 17-25's roughly because making the audience want to know more about the characters state and what that charcters Psycholohiocal state makes them do is quite interesting. This feedback was said by both male and female feedback.
Location
The location was very obvious here as majority of the audience knew where it was based (Hackney0 and said that it was very funny that if it was reality, a girl living in Hackney like the one in my opening will be very weird and not normal because the location is a very different atmosphere that most other areas. Other than these statements, i believe the location was a great choice.
A few other statements were made by the Sound. Some of the audeince stated that they liked the choice in sound, and the freaky, weird, lullaby that was dimly played in the background gave that 'Pyschological' and 'mysterious' effect. then the use of what sounded like a demening and dismal feeling. also a few comments on the film name came to notion, and some people thought it was a smart choice in title choice, as our storyline was obviously ' After 3am the supernatural things come to life'.
Heres and example of the rough cut:
As you can see there was a lot to do. From taking accounts and influences from friends suggestions and from watching more and more movies at home, the film improved a lot and our audience slightly changed to mid aged teenagers.
Rough cut
When uploading the rough cut, issues came across as we had problems seeing the actual images, by then our sound was not ready and a few more scenes had to be added in and edited. We were still behind on this at that time, which did bring stress and worry on the group but we got through it.Heres and example of the rough cut:

Feedback
Here is a few clips from the audience and their Feedback from the film.
Also in our spare time one of the girls in my group created a advertisement poster like other films in the media now as an example of what it would look like as a real movie, with everyones ideas and help Emma made this and published it on facebook:
Evaluation Question 2
In this question I chose to use a Prezi to show representation through a presentation, on social groups, and how my product used representation, negatively and positively.
How does your media product represent particular social groups? on Prezi
Although the lighting was not very good in my media product, this image is a comparison to the image below, a picture taken form The grudge, as my group had the idea of this type of intertextuality of both characters.
Representation has been varied through my film opening, I showed the comparison of the movie Th Grudge, representing my film opening as both negative and positive stereotype as seen in the Prezi above.

Evaluation: Question 2
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Representation of a character defines their personality and actions, this can sometimes be represented as a stereotype. Representation includes age, gender, ethnicity and class, for example a stereotype for young people are party crazed, hooded thugs.

Evaluation Question 3
In this post im talking about production and distribution companies that would have been useful in the film opening and what i've already used.
Some of these companies are big distribution companies, and some are independent.
My film product can be both Mainstream and Independent.
Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. is an American film production and distribution company. Columbia Pictures is owned by Sony pictures Entertainment, a subsidiary of the Japanese conglomerate sony. It is one of the leading film companies in the world, a member of Big-six
Ghost Pictures Production was established in 2002 by Sam Raimi, who is the founder of Reniassance Pictures, and Robert Tapert to produce high-concept horror films. Most of its theatrical films are produced and distributed by Mandate Pictures.
NOTE: there was a problem with my Beeclip account so I could not save my work, so I had to print screen it.

Q 6 - Things I have learnt about technology.
I have learnt a lot during the coursework period, i've learnt how to properly set up a camera and a tripod. Also soundtrack Pro has become much easier to use as i had help with teachers which made me feel more confident while using it. Live Type was very simple for me to use and has helped me and my group a lot during the course work. Im more confident now using Final Cut Pro which is demonstrated through Q3. I also learnt how to overlay and to click edit where the sound comes on before the actual scene. I've used various websites that i had not heard of before doing the coursework which might help me later in media.

Evaluation Question 3
This is a podcast that I created for my answer
Response on final outcome.
I liked how my final opening came out i think it suited our genre well and it was very suspenseful and had good timing. The actress in 03:01 was very good as she made the character look scary but in an unconventional way by using subtle facial expressions which made the character more creepy.
If i could do the thriller opening again i would have made it a bit longer and made the sound more creepier, i think i would have also made the ending a bit clearer. Even though i think the ending was good for raising questions.
My favorite part of the opening was the overlaying of the snow globe and the characters face. The snow globe adds innocence and reminds people of childhood, and i think the overlaying of the girls face makes the piece.

EVALUATION Question 7 'Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?'
Looking back at my prelim, I think that we have improved majorly. Our prelim was about a investigation, we had to use different camera angles, and show our editing skills. For our prelim we did a story board and an animated clip made from our story boards. These made us understand the stages we had to record.
We had to use a dark room for our prelim, which was pretty hard to find. For our actual opening, we were able to record at night and in the dark by switching off the lights, and only having the light dimmer as our only source of light. In our prelim we didn't really use much mise-en-scene except the hood on one of our characters. For our actual video, we were able to dress our character, and add make up to it too. The camera skills in our prelim consist of match cut and
Trying to keep in mind that we had to keep to the 180 rule was tricky for both of our videos. For both, there was little space, so it was harder for us trying to keep on one side. Filming the actual opening did take us extra time, approximately 4 days. Setting up the equipment for our opening was more easier than the prelim since we had practiced and gotten used to it.
The editing process for the prelim was easier than the final film. Everyone took turns in editing so we could all get a hang of it. We didn't really use any sounds except the ones that were recorded (whilst filming). We did not use Foley sounds which was a little bad since we couldn't understand some of our characters.
Whilst the course of our final film and everything in general, I was able to understand how to edit, record and use other equipment. Across both productions, I have learnt how to keep with the 180 rule and try out different camera angles so that the video is interesting, and that it is not only concentrating on one part. What I found hard was to be able to learn how to use Sound Track Pro, but I got the hang out it after a few tries.

EVALUATION Question 5 'How did you attract/address your audience?'
Looking back at our roughcut feedback, I think we have improved it a lot. We have added in several more titles such as screen play and costume design. As our teacher had said, that the last section seems to happen too quickly, we edited this and made the video longer. We had to book the cameras for a day so that we could record an establishing shot of the setting/location. Another thing we added was the soundtrack. This would have appealed to our target audience because it sounds very creepy and thrilling. We used a snow globe that I brought in to record it and slow it down. By making it echoe, it gave the opening of a more thriller movie effect.
Here is the roughcut and the actual video:

EVALUATION Question 3 'What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?'
In our opening, we used CandiStudios as our distribution company and D.E.E.O Productions as our production company. CandiStudios is the ident for our College’s name. My group came up with the production comapany’s name by combining all our names’ initials, which equalled to be D E E O, in alphabetical order.
They are both small independent companies. We have produced a low budget British film such as Attack the Block, My Brother the Devil etc. These are low budget British films. If our film ‘3:01’ was to be distributed in cinemas, I think the suitable distributor would be Film 4. This is because Film 4 seem like the type to be able to spread our film around the UK. Also, Revolver Entertainment have produced a few hit British films such as Anuvahood and Black Death. These movies are majorly known in the UK, so I think they may have good skills to distribute our film well to popularity.

Evaluation Question 7
Look back at your preliminary task; what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
When originally planning how we were going to produce our film opening after coming up with the idea, creating a time schedule of when and where, came easy and simple to our group. This is because we previously created an animatic of our opening which included the setting, mise en scene ect luckily an member of our group had a big enough space in her bedroom to film. When pre producing the opening we left out a key element which was vital when it came to filming the scenes, this being the table which the girl is sitting at.
This cost us allot of time as our plan was to get the filming completed on a tight schedule of two days because the actor used was busy. In addition, we had planned to film the morning scene that day but could not because it was getting darker.
Other mise en scenes were used throughout the opening such as the crystal ball, which we used for a match cut.
From filming our prelim we understood the 180 degree rule and challenged different shots when filming our opening,
3 shots - wide angle above with a close up and medium shot below. We used all 3 successfully in our final product.
As we were filming at night (in the dark) it was isential that we had an attached light for our camera to help make the image more clearer but had to use it on a minimum power as the bright light would show up as a square on the walls so the final opening was darker than wanted.
We had previously had practice in editing and found that we all had our strengths in different areas such as final cut pro, sound track pro and word pro, we used this to our advantage. Instead of working on each one at a time all together, we focused on different area and put it together in the end, still helping each other on the way. Editing the scenes took the longest as the clip resulted in being too short so we had to rethink a beginning and quickly film it. We were going to include blank screens to split up scenes therefore making it longer but as we have a lot of layering in would not look right and may confuse viewers.
So we elongated the beginning by filming a wide shot of the building and following through to the bedroom, we thought this would be good to show where the film is being set.
We had a vague idea of what we wanted the sound to be like, based on what mood we wanted to portray by looking at previous thrillers and searching up particular instrumentals on YouTube but when it came down to creating it on sound cut pro it was difficult to get the perfect sound. From using sound cut pro for our preliminary task we were familiar with the instrumental used then and thought that would be a good sound to use for our opening (which it was). We also had a problem with finding the rite alarm sound so we had to play around with the volume and tone to get it to the sound we wanted.
For our tittles we wanted to create a suspicious and psychological theme so we used a crackle effect on the writing to show the girl is unstable ect.
By doing the preliminary task it has helped us with the knowledge to complete our thriller opening with a considerable amount of ease as every technology we used to complete it very much familiar to us.
Evaluation: Question 1
The purpose a film opening is to engage the audience to continue to watch more of the film, a film opening should show the main characters and genre of the movie. Directors can do this in the following ways
- Flash backs. This gives the audience information of key events that is usually unraveled throughout the movie.
- Panning of landscape. This is used to set the scene and gives the audience an idea of where the film is set.
- Narrations . This can give the audience more detail into the movie.
- A chase/ fight. Straight away this can draw the audience into the movie because of the action.
- Tittle sequences. This gives the audience knowledge of who is involved with the movie and what known characters are featured.
In the opening of 'attack the block' there is a shot of the sky which then follows down, showing a shot of a train station and the road zooming in until we get a shot of a main character coming out of the station.
For our opening we used this technique to show the location of our film letting the audience know where the movie is being filmed. showing the outside of the building leading into a corridoor and finally into the main characters room.
The conventions of a tittle sequence always feature the distribution and production company, this lets the audience know who was involved in the making and advertising of the movie. We used the standard conventions of a tittle sequence by following the order of them, with distribution first and production second.
To make the tittles more interesting and relatable to the film we used a crackle effect on the tittles to relate to our psychological thriller where the girl is challenged by her split personality with causes torment and distress.

The movies that mainly inspired us were Eastern Asian thriller/horror movies. These thriller horrors consist of females being portrayed as supernatural killers. We have conveyed this into our opening too. We used an Asian girl with long hair. By adding dark make-up to her pale face adds to the dar side of her that we get a glimpse of.
Films such as Ju-Rei, The Wig, Whispering Stars are Japanese and Korean thriller horrors. The Japanese film industry is very known for its thrillers, they attract viewers from all over the world. Also, most American thrillers are all Japanese remakes. Sometimes they do well in the market but most viewers still prefer and say that the original from the Japanese are more scarier.

Q1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
I think my title opening was quite conventional we started with the distribution and production companies, we then went on to the three main actors which are normally after the title sequence if there isn't any famous actors involved.
I think 03:01 was a conventional film opening as the audience were introduced to the main character and also saw the pre plot, which was the characters Jekyll and Hyde like personality and a dead body at the end of the opening.
Our film opening definitely raised questions, the lighting was quite dark and the character was quite ambiguous was she the protagonist or the antagonist? Was the person under her bed dead or just unconsciousness? Why were there voices? This relates to The Ring as it starts our ordinary enough with two teenagers it also raises questions as she talks about a killer video tape and then she dies.
Also with our film there is alot of close ups of the main characters face this was to create suspense this relates to the Shining because they also have a scene were the film's antagonist plunges his head through the door and shouts "heres johnny."
Our film opening resembles that of Panic Room because it starts with an establishing shot of the city.

Editing credits/Influences
Our influences on editing came from the film Insidious and Orphan we liked the way it was styled and its editing. The speed was also convenient and the way the music also gave way for the title sequence and how the both merged together. It was inciting to see how producers can do so little with title sequences, although it is the first thing you see.

This is a screen grab of the editing process, i used LiveType to create the title sequence, LiveType was very easy to use and the effects were great as they added a more gothic feel to our opening. Inspired Movie
Our opening was inspired by Paranormal Activity. We tried to create a scene similar to it, form the first movie where the actress is in her room walking around etc.We were thinking about using a timer, but we thought it would seem more like a trailer than an opening to a movie
Paranormal Activity 3:01
The scenery is slightly different compared to ours but we did try put best to make it as good as PA1. As you can see the bedroom in PA1 is bigger and ours was smaller. They were both set in bedrooms mainly and the night camera effect was used

Rough Cut Response
This looks nice and stylish with a good sense of genre.
You need to sort out the order the credits occur in your sequence - and add in a few like the Candi ident.
The final sequence should be slowed down a bit, I'm not sure we are really clear who the sequence is about and whether the characters are connected - this is possibly because the last section almost happens too quickly to establish connections..
Also, keep working on the soundtrack -needs to be finished by Friday !

Personal view on how filming went:
In my opinion, I think that our filming went well. When all of my group members arrived, we had to wait until it got dark since our opening was mainly set in a dark room. The scenery we had was good, we had enough time to get everything ready and to be shot. We all took turns in using the camera, teaching each other how things worked. This enabled us to work as a team and work progressively.
What was sometimes hard during filming was the amount of space we had in my room. Sometimes it felt like we were in the way of the camera, so we went outside of the room and waited until the scene was done.
Another thing is the fact that because we switched the lights off and only had a a dimmer, the room was still pretty dark. We could have made it more lighter, but to keep that light the same throughout all the scenes was tricky. When we reviewed some parts that we took, it seemed to be too dark to put in our opening and therefore had to be cut out.
Since we cut out a few scenes, just last week we had to go and film again, so that we hada sufficient amount of video to last. Me and my group member Ola, went back to my house so that we could film the street and then the hall way, then the doors to my room. We have already edited it and it looks pretty good. This was just another way of making our opening to our fim a little longer, because before it only lasted 1 minute. Now that we have added more to it, we have extended that time, (cannot give a estimate yet since we are still in the process of editing and putting in title sequences).

Personal Review of the filming so far
I think that we all have made so much progress in our week of filming, although it was challenging, we also learnt a lot of team work and encouragement helps.
The whole process of this was an eye opener as media work is not always easy to everyone. Filming also helped us learn different skills as we all took turns using the Camera and taking different shots, seeing how we can experiment with them.

Planning Story Board & Animatic
Planning our story board was challenging as we had so many ideas, but could not include them all. The story board consisted of our opening scene , and what blank spaces needed, till the end of the film. As we went on with our planning each picture was drawn accurately to how our scenes in the opening will occur.
In addition the animatic was an easy process as we have done it before, the only challenging thing is getting the timing right and the speed correctly.

Planning Costume & Props
Although our initial idea of costume was a victorian white dress gown, to be very creative. It did not come together and we had to find an alternative which was a plain white shirt and leggings.
Here is a snow ball/crystal ball we used to emphasise the character in our films innocence, and the progression of it, though it is slightly ironic. we also used it as it had a useful lullaby that could be used in our background sound.
Here we used a snow globe/crystal ball emphasising the Actresses innocence, giving off a theme of slight innocence as well, which is fairly ironic. Also it has a lullaby with it that will come in handy with our sound.
These are other props we used, like the drawings, pencil, make-up etc.
